Two overnight fights with a broken beer bottle ended with five people at hospitals.

It happened at the Hampton Court apartments at West 24th Street and Ridge Court.

Blood stains were still visible in a hallway on Friday after the fight between two men and four women.

Ben Alaniz, 20, of Lawrence, took a broken beer bottle and slashed the face of a 19-year-old man, who was flown to a hospital, police said.

He also cut three of the four women, according to police.

One of the women is a University of Kansas student. Another one of the women is a Haskell Indian Nations University student.

Police arrested Alaniz, and prosecutors charged in connection with the incident.

Three hours later, two of the women injured in the initial fight went back to the apartment complex and attacked another man with a broken beer bottle, police said.

They slashed him on the nose and ran away, according to police.

He was not seriously hurt.

Police later took to the two women into custody.

Charges against them were still pending, the Douglas County prosecutor said.
