Fig Files For Bankruptcy

Lipodissolve company Fig officially filed for bankruptcy Monday, after closing its doors last month.

The company, formerly Advanced Lipodissolve, provided injections they claimed helped dissolve away fat.

In December, Fig shut its doors to clients and patients in Overland Park and clinics across the country without warning, leaving around 500 employees out of work and thousands of patients with prepaid medical sessions out of luck.

On Monday, the company filed for bankruptcy protection in federal court and continued to file documents Tuesday.

The company came under fire in recent months, including a KCTV5 News investigation last summer that called into question the safety and effectiveness of lipodissolve.

The St. Louis-based company shut down operations at 17 clinics nationwide on Dec. 7 with the expectation that a bankruptcy claim would be forthcoming.

With the Chapter 11 filing official, patients who have paid for procedures they won't get can file a proof of claim in the case.

If you have questions about your options as a former patient or employee, visit the company’s Web site at fig.com.
