KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- City Union Mission official said they are full beyond capacity. At a time when donations are low and so are the temperatures outside, the homeless shelter faces a crisis, workers said. There are not enough beds for everyone who has come to ask shelter. But the director of the men's ministries said they never turn anyone away. They find mattresses and cots to accommodate everyone and no one sleeps on the bare floor."Last night, we had 284 people," said Rob Kenner, director of men's ministries. When asked how many beds they have available, he answered, "192."Shelter officials said household items are among the most needed donations. They could use more crock pots, griddles, irons, toasters and towels. The shelter also needs items for their Christmas store. Men's gifts that are sought include tool sets, cologne and watches. Gifts for women that are needed include bath and body items and jewelry. Toys and stocking stuffers for teens are also requested.Visit cityunionmission.org for more information.
