KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Someone destroyed a flag memorial near West 96th Street and State Line Road that several local veterans had set up to honor their fallen comrades. There are 3,860 flags planted in the ground, each one representing an American soldier killed in Iraq.Volunteers spent most of Sunday cleaning up the mess and salvaging what flags they could."I've shed a lot of tears over this. This should never happen in this country," said former Marine Andy Enders.Police said they have no suspects in the case.
