KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A local woman has been scamming pharmacies all over the metro, but an alert pharmacist put a stop to it, police said.Investigators said Shannah Surber worked at a local nursing home and stole personal information from the residents. The scheme began at the Myers Nursing Home in Kansas City, according to police.Police claim Surber, 28, stole Medicaid numbers from elderly residents in order to buy prescription drugs.Court documents allege Surber used the stolen Medicaid numbers to pay for prescription painkillers like Vicodin, Lortab and hydrocodone. The prosecutor said she used an identification number stolen from a dentist to get drug orders authorized.Police said the plan unraveled after a pharmacist at a CVS pharmacy on Independence Avenue realized Surber's calls were for Myer's Nursing Home patients and they only get their prescriptions from one particular pharmacy.Police arrested Surber last week. They said she had 23 pill bottles with 17 different names on them.
