Lawyers: Woman Suffers From Mental Disabilities, Kidney Failure

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A woman accused of trying to flush her baby down a toilet in a McDonald's restroom was under house arrest Friday.Friday afternoon, officers escorted Ashley Woods, 20, in handcuffs to the courtroom.In a swift move by courtroom standards, the judge granted a request to release Woods under strict provisions.She has mental disabilities, suffers from kidney failure and needs dialysis treatment, her lawyers said.Court documents indicated that paramedics found her premature son in the toilet wrapped with toilet paper.Prosecutors charged Woods with first-degree assault.Woods is required to wear an ankle bracelet at all times.She will be allowed to go to her dialysis treatments and have supervised visitation with her son.
