Prosecutors Charge Teen, Man With Burglary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man awakened overnight to a noise at the back of his house and his barking dog, and he ended up shooting a teenager who prosecutors said broke into this home and tried to steal a television.It happened at about 4 a.m. in the 6200 block of Forest Avenue.After he woke up, the resident got a handgun and went to investigate, the resident told police.He found a person trying to carry away a television, so he fired a shot and called police when the person ran out of the house, according to a news release from the Jackson County prosecutor's office.Police stopped a vehicle in the area a short time later.They found Randy K. Lane, 17, and Marcus Lovelady, 24, in the vehicle and took them into custody, police said.Lane had suffered a gunshot wound to the back, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the prosecutor's news release.Prosecutors later charged Lane and Lovelady with first-degree burglary.
