Adoption Announced For Mutilated Dogs

POSTED: 2:50 pm CDT September 7, 2007
UPDATED: 3:01 pm CDT September 7, 2007

Misty and Rocky, the two dogs found last month in northeast Kansas City with legs cut off, are available through a special adoption by the city.

Misty, a German shepherd/Labrador retriever mix, is thought to be seven or eight months old. Rocky, a rottweiler, is two or three years old.

"Because both of these dogs have been through so much, have special needs and have touched the emotions of so many people across the region, we want to make especially sure they get relocated in homes that will are well suited for their situations," said Lesly Forsberg, manager of the city of Kansas City, Mo., Animal Health and Public Safety Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department.

Pet lovers interested in adopting one or both of the animals will need to explain why they would like to adopt either dog in the application.

Applications can be found online and must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 14.
