KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The owner of a house near East 37th Street and Baltimore Avenue was inside her house Wednesday afternoon when she heard a loud boom. She went upstairs and smelled smoke, but couldn't see any damage. She decided to call the fire department anyway.Investigators believe a bolt of lightning struck a steel vent on the roof and traveled through the entire house, blowing out two televisions along the way. It came out through a small metal hook in a bedroom, zapping the bed below and setting the box springs on fire. The homeowner told KCTV5 News, "It had gone down through a canopy in the ceiling and burned out the box springs and in between. You couldn’t even see it. The bed was made; the fire was underneath the sheets and everything."The fire was in the bedroom of her daughter who had just gone off to college. No one was injured and no other part of the home was damaged.
