Mineral Oil Pumped From Lake

Workers at an Independence manufacturing plant released mineral oil into Crisp Lake.

Workers were apparently hosing down equipment containing the oil. That oil seeped into storm drains and then into the lake.

Eric Pearson, AZ Manufacturing and Sales Company, said, "They thought it was a biodegradable product. We know now that it is not. We're having meetings. We're addressing the situation to clean it up."

About 5,000 gallons of water had to be pumped out of the lake and there is concern that it could affect fish in the lake.

The manufacturing company is paying the cleaning costs and could face fines.
