Prosecutors have charged two Kansas City, Mo., men with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with a confrontation in a town home Sunday night.

Prosecutors identified them as Michael Lewis, 43, and Clayton D. Johnson, 36.

The men allegedly went to a town home at West 18th Street and Belleview Avenue and began pounding on the back door until the victim opened it up.

Once inside, Lewis allegedly slashed at the victim with a knife while Johnson disarmed the victim of a rifle and held the gun on the victim, according to a news release from the Jackson County prosecutor’s office.

Court documents indicated the victim fired several shots before being disarmed.

At one point, after getting the gun, Johnson allegedly pulled the trigger, but the gun didn’t go off, according to prosecutors.

After that, Lewis and Johnson ran out of the town home, and Kansas City police took them into custody a short time later.

The two men were romantically involved with relatives of the victim’s girlfriend, police said.

The victim and the two suspects went to the hospital. It wasn't immediately clear how they were injured, but they were all expected to survive.
