PLATTSBURG, Mo. -- Charred remains are all that are left of the family home where 12 people lived. The father was still visibly shaken as he retold the story of escaping the fire with his daughter just moments before the house went up in flames."I raised the window up and pushed the air conditioner out," said Sean Bingham. "I put her out and then I got out. If it had been a few more seconds, we'd have been roasted."The father and the two daughters who were home with him at the time of the fire all escaped uninjured. But everything inside the house was destroyed, including clothes, toys and basic living necessities.Plattsburg residents immediately began assisting the family in whatever way they could find."It hits close to home," said Dirk Talley, who organized the local fund drive. "We see these people every day.""I believe in prayer," said neighbor Virginia Wood. "I'm sure it will work out fine."Townspeople have been bringing donations of clothes, blankets and even teddy bears to a trailer located outside a local business. These are all items the family greatly appreciates."I can't thank the people of Plattsburg enough," Bingham said. "For everything they've done."Persons interested in donating should call 816-930-3160.
