Tom Wachs joined the KCTV5 Storm Track 5 weather team in June 2008 as the weekend morning meteorologist. Prior to joining KCTV5 News, Tom held a similar position in Johnson City, Tenn., and before that was Chief Meteorologist for KNOP-TV in North Platte, Neb.

One of the many highlights of Tom’s career includes providing the first ever wall-to-wall severe weather coverage in KNOP-TV’s history.

Tom was one of the first 200 people in the country to receive the "Certified Broadcast Meteorologist" designation from the American Meteorological Society.

Tom is a native of Milwaukee, Wis., and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. In his free time, Tom likes to swim, travel and storm chase. His favorite food is sushi. His favorite musical artist is James Taylor, and his favorite movie is "Twister."

Tom’s favorite thing about Kansas City is that it’s a big city with a small town community feel.
