175 Workers Cut At GM Fairfax Plant

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- About 175 workers are out of a job at the General Motors Fairfax plant.The hourly employees accepted a buyout Monday as part of the latest round of job cuts by the auto giant. GM said about 6,000 employees from throughout the company took buyouts or early retirement.General Motors produces the Chevy Malibu at the Fairfax plant, and is in the midst of launching a new Buick LaCrosse.GM has about 54,000 factory workers. The company hopes to end the year with 40,500.
