KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As the economic crisis on Wall Street continued Tuesday, workers at two restaurants in Brookside said business was holding steady."I just figured that with such point drops in the stock market and whatnot, people would be a little less tempted to spend the restaurant money, the going out to eat money," said George Biggs of Jalapenos. "That's usually kind of one of the first things I think that go."But so far, he said, the restaurant hasn't seen a slump in business."I myself have been surprised, yet I do think we're still pretty early in this economic debacle," Biggs said.
Business has also been normal across the street at Carmen's Cafe."I haven't seen a change, not here, at all," said John Paul Balthazor, of Carmen's.Still, Biggs was only cautiously optimistic that the effects wouldn't trickle down.Biggs said, "I think right now, everybody's just kind of tying the shoes a little tighter and hoping things balance out, but I don't think any of us really know what's around the bend yet."
