KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Members of the public got their first opportunity Wednesday morning to learn what four companies fighting to win a contract to build a resort casino in the county have to offer.Depending on which company wins the contract, a temporary building could be in a place in Wyandotte County in the next 10 months. The ideas vary from a golf course and casino to a waterpark/riverwalk casino to a Hard Rock casino and hotel overlooking Kansas Speedway. The same company that developed the Kansas City Power & Light district is proposing the Hard Rock idea to give NASCAR fans a place to stay and gamble.
The waterpark/riverwalk resort casino would be designed to draw a family crowd.Another idea would include golf courses in Kansas City, Kan., and in Edwardsville."We're absolutely excited, and I think this is a great day for the citizens of Wyandotte County," said Mike Taylor, of the Unified Government. "They've waited a long, long time for this, and to be able to compete with the riverboat casinos across the state line."The seven-member Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board has until Sept. 19 to make a decision.
