POSTED: 12:28 am CDT September 7, 2008

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Manny Ramirez clubbed a three-run homer off Brandon Webb and drove in five runs to help the Los Angeles Dodgers supplant the Diamondbacks from atop the NL West standings with a 7-2 victory over Arizona. Matt Kemp had two hits and scored a run for the Dodgers, who grabbed sole possession of first place for the first time since April 4th. Russell Martin and Andre Ethier each walked three times and scored a run for Los Angeles, which has won the first two games of this series and seven in a row overall. The Dodgers hold a half-game lead over Arizona. Chad Billingsley (14-10) scattered four hits, struck out nine and walked one over 6 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win. Justin Upton drove in both runs for Arizona, which has dropped nine of its last 12 games. Webb (19-7), who has lost each of his last three starts, failed again in his bid to become the National League's first 20-game winner since 2005. The right-hander was tagged for seven runs on five hits with six strikeouts and a season-high six walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Final Score: Washington 8, Atlanta 5 (10 innings)

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Elijah Dukes hit a pair of solo homers and Ryan Langerhans had a pinch-hit go-ahead homer in the 10th inning, as the Washington Nationals edged the Atlanta Braves, 8-5, in the third contest of a four-game set. Ryan Zimmerman and Willie Harris clubbed a solo homer each for the Nats, who have won nine of their last 12 games. Starter Tim Redding went six innings and gave up three runs -- two earned -- on five hits to get a no-decision. Kelly Johnson had a pair of RBI for the Braves, who have dropped six of their last nine games. Yunel Escobar and Gregor Blanco both drove in a run in defeat. Starter Mike Hampton lasted seven frames and was touched for five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits. Hampton also gave up a career-high four homers in the no-decision. With the game even at five in the 10th stanza, Langerhans led off by taking a 1-1 offering from Mike Gonzalez (0-2) over the fence in right-center to give the Nats a lead. Two batters later, Cristian Guzman dropped a triple by a diving Josh Anderson in center and touched home as Zimmerman followed with a double, which brought Jorge Julio on in relief. Lastings Milledge worked a walk before a single from Dukes plated Zimmerman, giving Washington an 8-5 cushion.

Final Score: Milwaukee 1, San Diego 0

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Ben Sheets pitched a complete game to outduel Padres ace Jake Peavy, as Milwaukee edged San Diego, 1-0, in the third installment of a four-game series from Miller Park. Sheets (13-7) showed no ill effects after tweaking a left groin muscle, forcing him to leave his last start, giving up just five hits and walking one with seven strikeouts. The righty won for just the third time in his last 11 starts after a 10-2 beginning to the season and set a career high for wins in a season. Prince Fielder doubled in the game's lone run for Milwaukee, which won its second in a row. The Brewers pushed their lead in the Wild Card standings to 4 1/2 games over Philadelphia, whose game with the Mets was postponed due to rains from tropical storm Hanna. Milwaukee also remained four games back of the first-place Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Chicago outslugged the Reds 14-9 later Friday to snap a six-game skid. Peavy (9-10) winless in his last four starts, was outmatched by Sheets but was nearly as perfect, allowing just one run on five hits, while walking four and striking out five in seven innings of work. Luis Rodriguez had three of San Diego's five hits as the Padres dropped their fifth game in the last six. Chase Headley had the other two hits.

Final Score: St. Louis 5, Florida 3

Ryan Ludwick added a pair of hits, while Felipe Lopez drove in a pair for the Cardinals, who had lost six of seven. St. Louis still trails Milwaukee in the NL wild card race by six games, after the Brewers edged San Diego, 1-0, on Saturday. Scott Olsen (6-10) took the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits and three walks in six frames. Josh Willingham and Dan Uggla each homered for the Marlins, who had won three of four.

Final Score: Chicago 14, Cincinnati 9

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Alfonso Soriano clubbed three homers and drove in five runs, as the Chicago Cubs snapped a six-game skid by defeating the Cincinnati Reds, 14-9, in the middle portion of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park. Soriano finished 4-for-5, scoring four times, and Derrek Lee went 4-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI on his 33rd birthday, while Mark DeRosa belted a three-run homer. The Cubs maintained a four-game lead over Milwaukee for the top spot in the NL Central after the Brewers beat San Diego, 1-0, Saturday night. Jason Marquis (10-8) gave up two runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings to get the win. He also hit a solo home run. Jolbert Cabrera belted a grand slam for the Reds, who have dropped three of their last five games. Paul Bako drove in two runs for Cincinnati. Johnny Cueto (8-13), making his first appearance since he was diagnosed with a posterior strain in his right elbow on August 25, allowed five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Final Score: Houston 2, Colorado 0

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Roy Oswalt threw his first shutout of the season as the Houston Astros downed the Colorado Rockies, 2-0, in the middle portion of a three-game series at Coors Field. Hunter Pence provided the offense with a two-run home run. Jeff Francis (4-9) was solid on the mound as he gave up the two runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts for the Rockies, who have dropped four of their last seven. Philadelphia at New York - postponed

The game will be made up as part of a day/night doubleheader on Sunday. The first game will start at 2:15 p.m. (et), and the nightcap will start at the originally scheduled 8:05 p.m. (et).
