A local teen is trying to change the world using a needle and thread.

Kate McKay, a junior at Pembroke Hill High School, has organized a fashion show to benefit Bridging the Gap, a local environmental action and education organization.

The Second Annual Kate McKay Fashion Show will showcase 25 of her original fashions at the Uptown Theater on June 26.

Bridging the Gap leads recycling centers in Kansas City, picks up litter in the urban core, conducts original research on climate change, actively lobbies city, county and state government to create wind power and home energy efficiency programs and motivates citizens to save on carbon emissions.

McKay said that 100 percent of the materials used in the fashions are recycled.

Environmentally friendly vendors will be on hand and a drawing will be held for environmentally friendly products like vegan hair care materials and more.

Students from Pembroke Hill will serve as models for the show, which begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 per person and are available for purchase at bridgingthegap.org. Tickets purchased the night of the event are $28.
