Cross-Lines Community Outreach offered backpacks full of school supplies to financially struggling students in Wyandotte County.

The local organization collected school supply donations and distributed at their headquarters at 736 Shawnee Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.

The group surpassed their goal of 1,500 backpacks with grade-appropriate supplies and a $5 coupon that can be used to purchase school uniform clothing at the Cross-Lines Thrift Store. This year, they were able to help 1,768 students, 567 families.

Cross-Lines raised more than $6,000 in their school supply donation drive. Many people dropped off money along with supplies to help the effort.

To qualify for a backpack, families needed photo identification, proof of Wyandotte County residency, proof of income and either a Social Security card, birth certificate or medical card for dependents who need the supplies.
