The program will begin with a documentary film about the civil rights movement in the United States. Then Charles Coulter, op-ed editor of The Kansas City Star, who has taught African American history at KCAI and at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, will deliver one of King's speeches, followed by open discussion.

The Olathe Branch of the NAACP honors MLK. Speakers include Elizabeth Eckford, one of nine African Americans to enter Little Rock's Central High School in 1957, and two white students who befriended her.
