Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy wore jerseys with pink numbers and pink socks for its game against Big Rapids Crossroads Academy on Oct. 9.

It was all to help raise awareness for breast cancer research, a cause close to the Irish's heart.

In June 2007, Keisha Brown, the school's athletic director and boy's basketball coach, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Brown began chemotherapy treatments soon after. She missed the first eight weeks of school and her final chemotherapy treatment came months later, in December.

"I'm excited that the boys were willing and wanted to wear pink," said Brown. "That makes me emotional, because you don't find too many boys willing to wear pink."

As a survivor, Brown's continuous fight is a reminder to all that cancer of all-types affects many lives.

"I'm very proud of the football team, and the coaches for allowing me to come in and propose this idea," Brown said.

Sacred Heart won the game in the special attire, beating Big Rapids Crossroads Academy 61-0.
