ECW Takes Over
UPDATED: 8:07 am CDT June 13,

Listen up! This week the focus is on Extreme Championship Wrestling, Paul Heyman's renegade promotion.ECW, which was purchased by WWE's Vince McMahon a while back, was reborn Sunday night in the "One Night Stand" pay-per-view. This one didn't follow much of a script, and ECW fans are clogging the blogs with rave reviews. Here's the rundown of the major matches:
Lance Storm (with Dawn Marie) vs. Chris Jericho:
What Will Happen: Storm wins. Jericho still has to pile up a few losses before he goes into full-blown crazy heel mode.
What Did Happen: Storm took it, pinning Jericho after hitting him with the dreaded kendo stick.Rey Mysterio vs. Psychosis:
What Will Happen: This is billed as "extreme luchador action," and could steal the show. Rey will win, despite a run-in by Eddie Guerrero.
What Did Happen: Rey takes it.Super Crazy vs. Tajiri vs. Little Guido:
What Will Happen: This is a three-way dance that Tajiri should steal with the green mist.
What Did Happen: Super Crazy gets the victory.Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit:
What Will Happen: The Rabid Wolverine wins with an assist from Mysterio.
What Did Happen: Benoit beats crazy Eddie, who tapped out.Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Bubba and D-Von Dudley:
What Will Happen: I like Sandman and Dreamer here in what should be a bloodbath.
What Did Happen: The Dudley's took 'em out.The card also featured fun appearances by a bunch of ECW alumni. That list included: Heyman, Joey Styles, Rob Van Dam, Tazz, Al Snow, Sabu, Rhyno, Joel Gertner, Justin Credible, Masato Tanaka and Mikey Whipwreck. As for the WWE "invasion" angle, they boys from "Raw" and "Smackdown!" showed up, and were generally insulted and beaten by the ECW crew. In the end, "Raw" G.M. Eric Bischoff was hammered and humiliated in the ring. I imagine WWE wouldn't go to the trouble of putting on an ECW reunion show and not letting that crew get the upper hand.I know I'm dreaming, but wouldn't it be cool if Vince brought back the WCW brand (which he also owns) as well? He could have WWE "Raw!" on Monday night, switch "Smackdown!" to a WCW show (with Eric Bischoff in charge) and devote the edgy ECW to a late-night weekend slot, with the great Paul Heyman in charge. Yeah, it's all owned by WWE, but with familiar branding, it's more fun for the fans. And while we're at it, how about a half-hour "video vault" show as a promotional vehicle for the "WWE 24/7" network? I'd love to see old AWA matches again. Just a thought. But when it happens, Vince, you owe me some dough. That's it! Get out of here.Class dismissed!(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting. His first wrestling memory is of The Crusher smoking a cigar after a brawl with Mad Dog Vachon. The old AWA. Nothing was better. )
