The Fragrance Garden: A Journey for the Senses
January 10 - March 8
Powell Gardens, 1609 NW US Highway 50, Kingsville, MO 64061
Escape the winter blues with a fragrant retreat into a new conservatory exhibit. The Fragrance Garden will celebrate the unique aromas well-chosen plants can add to the garden. The display includes heady favorites from jasmine to gardenia, grouped in nine classifications of scents as established by Helen Van Pelt Wilson in her classic 1967 book “The Fragrant Year.” These classifications range from spicy to balsamic to honeyed. At “smelling stations” you can learn about each group and gather ideas for designing your own fragrance garden. The intense fragrance combined with the flush of spring blooms make the exhibit a delight for all of the senses. An aromatherapy poll will help the staff of Powell Gardens assess which fragrance classifications are most soothing to the soul according to garden visitors. Results of the ongoing poll will be released when the exhibit closes in mid-March.
