Garden City Lions Club Annual 2008 Community Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration

U.S. Congressman Ike Skelton, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, will be the honored guest to throw the switch lighting the 2008 Community Christmas Tree during this small town celebration of the Christmas season. This year's celebration will be in honor of veterans and current military personnel whose sacrifices have made and continue to make it possible for the rest of us to enjoy activities such as this. Thanks will also be given to our military personnel unable to be at home with their families during the Holiday Season because of their service to our nation. Congressman Skelton's remarks will address these topics. Other elected officials who will be making brief remarks at the tree lighting will include State Senator-elect David Pearce, State Representatives and Representative-elect Luke Scavuzzo, Shannon Cooper and Scott Largent, Cass County Commissioners and Commissioners-elect as well as local City Aldermen, Mayor and City Manager. Santa Claus will be present and refreshments and prizes supplied by area businesses will be presented. A Christmas caroling hayride and other fun activities will also take place during this small town America Christmas Celebration.
