Although they're both professionals, film star Hugh Jackman admits that there was a bit of a "wow" factor working with rock legend David Bowie on Christopher Nolan's dramatic fantasy-thriller "The Prestige."

But the pairing of the "X-Men" star and Ziggy Stardust also forced Jackman to 'fess-up to a memory from his rock 'n' roll youth in Australia.

Bowie plays of the pivotal role of real-life inventor Nikola Tesla in "The Prestige" -- about a pair of rival magicians (Jackman and Christian Bale) during the Victorian era who become dangerously obsessed with their craft. The film also stars Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson, but Jackman was one of the few cast members to share scenes with Bowie.

Jackman told @ The Movies' Tim Lammers Monday that Bowie was so "disarmingly nice," that it relaxed him enough to share an old story with the rocker after a couple of days on the set.

"I told him that in 1981, the first concert that I was ever going to go to that I paid for myself, was his," Jackman recalled. "He went, 'Great. Did you enjoy it?' and I went, 'Well, here's the other half of the story: I paid $20 for the ticket, which was all the money I had at the time … someone at the school on the day of the concert offered me $50 and I sold it to him.'"

"Bowie went, 'Oh yeah, I see. You're that kind of guy, are ya?' I went, 'No, no, man -- I was only 13!'" Jackman said, laughing.

Tesla is the only historical character in "The Prestige," a mysterious scientist known for his radical ideas, engineering accomplishments and groundbreaking inventions -- and being the chief rival of Thomas Edison.

And while things get electric in "The Prestige," Jackman said his wish of seeing Bowie perform -- amped-up or unplugged -- didn't materialize.

"It was funny, all of the crew wanted him to sing a song, but no one had the guts to ask him," Jackman said.

"The Prestige" opens in theaters nationwide Oct.20.
