KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City teen left his school in handcuffs Monday, accused of pulling a weapon on a parent.According to the parent, the teen pulled a gun out of his pocket and threatened her. But instead of running away, that mother grabbed a baseball bat from the truck of her car.Police led the 16-year-old boy in handcuffs out of Hogan Prep Academy Monday morning. The teen was arrested on suspicion of bringing a loaded gun to school.After school, students like Kareama Smart said the frightening incident was the talk in the halls.
"I feel scared, because I go to school for a safe environment," Smart said.Another student, William Byrd, said the incident wasn't good for the school, "but they need to stop people with guns and get them out of the school."A police report indicated the student got into an argument in the parking lot with another teen's mother.That mother told KCTV5 News that the teen had pulled her daughter's hair and threatened to shoot her last week, so she confronted the teen.Words were exchanged, according to police.He pulled out a gun and she grabbed a bat from her car, according to police.A coach at the school heard screaming and confronted the teen, who placed the gun back in his pocket. Police were called and they took the loaded gun and the teen away, according to police.The mother said confronting the teen herself was risky but she was convinced she stopped her daughter and possibly others from being hurt.Police recovered three bullets from the loaded gun, according to police.The teen was being held Monday evening at a juvenile detention center.The principal issued a statement that said that during the incident, the staff did everything they could to ensure students' safety was never in question.
