LEAWOOD, Kan. -- The Blue Valley School District has a special preschool program at several schools that has students helping and learning from other students. The peer model program is based on the idea that children learn best through play and interaction with one another.Even at circle time, the theory behind the program is at play. Children learn best around each other. When typically developing children sit next to developmentally delayed children, both children thrive. While students also receive speech, physical and occupational therapy, they learn a lot just by playing with and watching their new friends.
Blue Valley still has spots available for the parents of 3- and 4-year-olds living the school district and interested in the peer model program. For more information about the Blue Valley Peer Model program, visit the district's Web site.
