FORT HAYS, Kan. -- A professor at a Kansas university who dropped his pants and mooned a room full of students and teachers is under investigation after video of the incident was posted on YouTube, school officials said.

The video shows Bill Shanahan, debate coach at Fort Hays State University, in a profane, in-your-face argument with his counterpart from the University of Pittsburgh, Shanara Reid-Brinkley. The exchange took place in March at a competitive debate at Emory University in Atlanta.

The video shows Shanahan bending over and pulling down his khaki shorts, exposing his underwear. The tape was posted on YouTube Aug. 2 and had more than 88,000 views by Thursday.

Fort Hays academic officer Larry Gould said Reid-Brinkley accused the Fort Hays team of dropping her as a judge because she is black. Gould said the school is also investigating the "racial element" to the episode.

"We're sure that there's probably some facts and information that's just not available. I mean, you see a lot on the video, but we need to make sure everything is revealed before we take any action," said Gould.

There was no word yet what kind of reprimand Shanahan may face.

Attempts to reach Shanahan for comment were unsuccessful.
