LIBERTY, Mo. -- The Liberty school board accepted the resignation of the district's top official on Monday night. The school board announced that Phil Wright stepped down and the district's top two human resource officials are on paid leave after a resident discovered accountability problems. The Liberty resident made the findings after making a public records request and finding several questionable expenses, including travel expenses for which there were no receipts and liquor purchased with school funds. The district in Clay County has since approved stricter procedures for credit-card use, travel and other areas of financial concern. After announcing Wright's resignation Monday night, the school board said the superintendent would be paid through June 2008.
