Cold Dog Delivers Puppies At Shelter
Vets Remind People To Protect Pets In Cold

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A golden retriever looking for a place to have puppies ended up at Wayside Waifs in Kansas City.Workers at a gas station in Freeman, Mo., found the dog, named Hope, and two days later, the dog began to deliver the puppies, according to a news release from Wayside Waifs.After the dog delivered eight of puppies, the workers took the dog to Wayside Waifs, according to the news release.The first five puppies didn't survive due to exposure to the cold and low body temperature, according to the news release.Wayside Waifs veterinarians started working to increase the body temperature of the remaining puppies, and less than an hour later, the dog delivered two more puppies, according to the news release.Vets aren't sure whether the puppies will survive, according to the news release.Wayside Waifs encouraged pet owners to keep pets inside when the temperature dips below freezing, to make sure that pets that spend a lot of time outdoors eat more food in the winter, and to offer outdoor dogs weather-proofed doghouses.
