Biologist: Mutilated Cat Killed By Another Animal

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- A cat that Lawrence police initially thought had been mutilated turned out to be have been killed by another animal.A lawn care worker discovered the cat, cut in half in a customer's yard in the same area where several other cats were found dead last month.A necropsy was performed by a biologist/fur bearer with the Kansas Department of Wildlife. That person determined the cat was not killed by a person, according to a news release from Sgt. Bill Cory, of the Lawrence Police Department.The remaining cat killings remained under investigation.
Police asked anyone with information is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 832-7509 or Crime Stoppers at 843- TIPS.According to the Humane Society, there have been 20 animal cruelty cases reported in Douglas County this year, compared with three or four in a typical year.
