POSTED: 5:30 pm CST November 15, 2008

(Sports Network) - Mike Teel threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns, as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights routed the South Florida Bulls, 49-16, in Big East Conference action at Raymond James Stadium.

Joe Martinek ran for 98 yards and two scores for the Scarlet Knights (5-5, 4-2 Big East). Kenny Britt caught eight passes for 173 yards and a touchdown.

USF (6-4, 1-4) quarterback Matt Grothe threw for 292 yards and led the team with 50 rushing yards, but he also threw three costly interceptions.

After a scoreless first quarter, Teel got Rutgers on the scoreboard first with a three-yard touchdown run, which capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive.

Three minutes later, USF kicker Maikon Bonani made it a 7-3 game with a 22- yard field goal.

On the Bulls' next offensive possession, Rutgers cornerback Jason McCourty stepped in front of a Grothe pass and returned it 30 yards to the end zone.

But USF answered by driving right back down the field, with Benjamin Williams crossing the goal line on a five-yard run to make it a 14-10 game.

However, Rutgers responded with another score just before the half, as Teel threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Jack Corcoran to take a 21-10 lead into the locker room.

The Scarlet Knights opened the second half with a 12-play, 82-yard drive, punctuated by Martinek's one-yard touchdown plunge.

On the ensuing possession, Grothe connected with Taurus Johnson for a 10-yard scoring strike. But the Bulls botched the extra-point attempt and still trailed by 12.

From there, it was all Scarlet Knights. Teel tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Shamar Graves in the final minute of the third quarter to extend the lead to 35-16.

Early in the fourth quarter, Teel connected with Britt for a 93-yard bomb to put Rutgers ahead, 42-16.

Martinek added a two-yard touchdown run with three minutes to play.

The Scarlet Knights defense forced a season-high six turnovers, which resulted in 21 points.
