GAME NOTES: The Kansas State Wildcats are set to kick off a regular-season ending two-game homestand this weekend, as they host the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Big 12 play at Snyder Stadium. The Wildcats come into the game in the midst of a major slump having dropped each of their last four outings. They have allowed over 40 points in each of their past three contests, including a 41-24 setback at Missouri last weekend. With the setback, KSU dipped to 4-6 overall and an a dismal 1-5 within the conference under head coach Ron Prince, who will not return to the program for the 2009 season. As for Nebraska, it too was in play last weekend, when it notched a 45-35 triumph over Kansas. It was the third win in the past four outings for the Huskers, who are now bowl eligible with a 6-4 ledger. The victory also pushed the team into a tie with Kansas for second-place in the North Division at 3-3. Nebraska leads the all- time series with KSU by a 75-15-2 count and that includes a dominating 73-31 victory in last season's encounter.

The Huskers rolled up 495 total yards of offense, as they overcame three turnovers to defeat Kansas, 45-35, this past weekend. Nebraska, which is averaging 33.8 ppg and 448.2 total ypg on the season, rushed for 167 yards and threw for 328 more in the victory last weekend. Joe Ganz led the charge, as he completed 28-of-37 pass attempts for 324 yards and three touchdowns. That kind of performance is expected of Ganz, who done a great job in completing 69.4 percent of his tosses this season. He has thrown for 19 touchdowns and rushed for three more, while being picked off just nine times in 333 pass attempts. Nate Swift has been his primary target with 54 catches, 801 yards and eight scores, but Todd Peterson has also been a solid option with 50 receptions and 599 yards. Last weekend, Swift hauled in seven balls for 111 yards and a score, while Peterson made five catches for 72 yards. Tailback Roy Helu Jr. actually led the Huskers with eight receptions last weekend and he also toted 16 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns. It was a great effort from Helu Jr., who now leads the team with 566 rushing yards behind an impressive 6.9 yard per carry average.

What separates Nebraska from the elite teams of the Big 12 is its defense, which is permitting 29.1 ppg and 380.0 total ypg on the season. The unit is allowing 140.9 ypg on the ground and has failed to create many turnovers, forcing only 10 on the year. In last weekend's win over Kansas, the Huskers' defense wasn't great, but it go the job done thanks to five sacks. Still, the unit gave up 422 total yards to Kansas and forced only one turnover. Suh Ndamukong had a big game in the win, notching 12 tackles, four TFLs and 2.5 sacks. He now leads the team with 60 stops and is tied for first with 4.5 sacks and 12 TFLs on the year.

The Wildcats were limited to 363 total yards, well below their season-average of 412.7 ypg, as they were easily defeated, 41-24, by Missouri last weekend. Quarterback Josh Freeman guided KSU by throwing for 121 yards and rushing for 56 yards and a touchdown. The dual-threat quarterback has been one of the few bright spots for the Wildcats this season, as he has thrown for 2,552 yards and 15 touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 369 yards and 14 more scores. Brandon Banks has been his go-to-guy and he leads the team with 57 catches, 917 yards and eight touchdowns. Last weekend, Banks pulled in nine balls for 34 yards and a touchdown and he also scored on a 93-yard run. The Wildcats, though, turned the ball over twice last weekend and that has been a big problem for this offense, which has committed 23 miscues on the year.

KSU's defensive woes continued last weekend, as they were exploited by Missouri for 511 total yards, including 221 on the ground. For the season, the Wildcats are giving up 451.3 total ypg, with 210.8 of those ypg coming via the run. On a positive note, KSU did force a pair of turnovers last weekend and that is big news considering it had generated just 10 miscues in the first nine games. Reggie Walker guided the club in the loss with eight stops, while Alex Hrebec made 5.5 tackles and recorded the team's lone sack. On the year, Joshua Moore leads the Wildcats with 58 tackles and Ian Campbell paces the team with 4.5 sacks.

The Wildcats appear to have all but given up on the season and that should only help Nebraska. The Huskers are moving the ball effectively on offense and should score plenty of points for the victory in this one.
