Katie Horner

Katie Horner joined KCTV5 in 1994, and her dedication to forecasting and serving the public continues to grow.

In 1995, she was certified as a meteorologist, and in 1996, she received the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society.

She became KCTV5's chief meteorologist in 1998, and today she serves on the American Meteorological Society's board of directors.

Katie is well-known in Kansas City for her tireless, non-stop severe weather coverage. She persevered through a relentless, live 15-hour severe weather broadcast in March 2006, reporting on at least 12 tornadoes that hit within KCTV5's coverage area.

Katie has written a parent’s resource book, “Brainstorming," a guide to help parents help their children through severe weather. It will soon be available online at her Web site and is available at area book stores.

But it hasn't been all serious weather coverage for Katie. While on the air, she has enjoyed flying with the Blue Angels, the Red Baron and on the Goodyear Blimp. She's also enjoyed skydiving, hot air ballooning, being the first person to ride Worlds of Fun's Detonator and swimming in a shark tank.

The most amazing thing she feels she has ever done as an on-air personality was organizing thousands of people to make a human flag after 9/11.

Katie was born in Nelsonville, Ohio. Actress Sarah Jessica Parker was born the same year and in the same hospital as Katie. In fact, Mrs. Parker, Sarah's mom, taught Katie's sister in elementary school.

Katie is the fourth child of Tom Stockdale, a minister, and Pat Stockdale, a social worker. They lived in Ohio, Kansas, Nebraska and Washington, D.C.

In 1988, Katie's parents moved to St. Louis, and Katie moved to Pensacola, Fla., to complete her bachelor's degree in public relations and marketing from the University of West Florida.

Katie began her career in meteorology in Pensacola at WEAR TV3.

She and her husband live in Kansas City, Mo., with her teenage daughter, Chelsea, and their two young girls, Anna and Ava.

Though Katie still enjoys training for triathlons, Play-Doh art and dancing to the Wiggles are Katie's latest hobbies.
